Congressman Zach Nunn, with staff members Tracee Knapp and Ali Kraber, visited Clarke County Hospital (CCH) on Tuesday, February 14, 2023. Congressman Nunn toured the Hospital and sat with CCH CEO Brian Evans, Pharmacist Michele Evink and Hospital Administrative staff to discuss the 340B Drug Pricing Program.
The 340B program, administrated by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), allows eligible Hospitals and Clinics to purchase medications at a reduced rate. Drug manufacturers are required to make these prices available as a condition of their participation in the Medicaid Drug Rebate Program. The program was designed, according to HRSA, “to stretch scarce federal resources to reach more eligible patients or provide more comprehensive services”.
Healthcare organizations use these savings to invest in critical patient care programs and activities. Locally, CCH has used these savings to expand services, and treat more patients close to their home. Recently, Pharmaceutical manufacturers have increasingly filed lawsuits to challenge access to these prices. The visit gave CCH a chance to show Congressman Nunn how critical these savings are to providing exceptional care to our patients.
