The recent passing of Dr. Jim and Mary Ellen Kimball has left a profound impact on the community of Osceola and Clarke County, Iowa. As long-time supporters of local businesses, the arts, and community initiatives, the Kimballs touched countless lives. To help the community process this tragic loss, Clarke County Hospital is offering a space where residents can leave tributes and say a final farewell to the beloved couple.
“Our community is heartbroken over the loss of Jim and Mary Ellen,” said Brian Evans, Clarke County Hospital CEO. “This memorial is a small way for us to come together to honor the love and support they gave to so many.”
During this holiday season and into the New Year, Clarke County Hospital will dedicate a memorial space on the east side of its campus, near the landmark sculpture that Mary Ellen Kimball played a significant role in bringing to the community. Friends and neighbors are encouraged to visit the site to pay their respects and celebrate the Kimballs’ legacy.
“The Kimballs’ dedication to the community spanned more than 50 years and touched thousands of lives in Clarke County,” said Evans.
Dr. Jim Kimball was a respected physician and a pillar of leadership and service. After serving in the military and practicing medicine across the nation, he and Mary Ellen returned to Osceola in 1969. They quickly became integral members of the community, sharing their passion for the arts, volunteering on numerous boards, and supporting local businesses.
Mary Ellen Kimball, whose vision and dedication brought the hospital’s artistic landmark to fruition, was a tireless advocate for the arts. She devoted countless hours to community committees and events, leaving a lasting cultural impact.
