The Fall 2025 semester is bringing changes to the applied engineering technology program and a new Career Academy opportunity to the eastern part of Southwestern’s region.
As you drive through Osceola, you will see the new ORBIT (Osceola Regional Business and Industrial Technology) Center being built adjacent to SWCC’s Osceola Center on the south side of Highway 34. This facility will be the new home of SWCC’s applied engineering technology program, which is designed to develop skills in various areas of manufacturing and troubleshooting while looking on from an engineering perspective.
In addition to the full-time programs being offered in Osceola, the new space and lab structure will allow Southwestern to establish a Career Academy in which high school students will learn basic skills in the industrial maintenance field, with the potential to earn a basic certificate through the college. This certificate can be stacked and earned credits can be applied to the applied engineering technology diploma and applied engineering technology Associate of Applied Science degree.
The applied engineering technology program qualifies for Iowa’s Last-Dollar Scholarship funding based on the high job demand and wages in SWCC’s region.
