COME CELEBRATE OSCEOLA’S RESTORED LANDMARK WITH A RIBBON-CUTTING CEREMONY AND SNACKS!
Monday, August 1st, 2016, at 6:00pm, there is a ceremonial ribbon-cutting to mark the official opening of the renovated Osceola Train Depot. We want you, your family, friends, neighbors, and business associates to join us for the celebration. Immediately after the ribbon-cutting, there will be an opportunity for tours of the renovated Depot as well as socializing and hors d’oeuvres for all in attendance.
It’s been over a decade in the making – the restoration and renovation of the Osceola Train Depot has finally come to completion. The City of Osceola, along with the Clarke County Development Corporation (CCDC), Osceola Chamber Mainstreet, and Osceola’s Historic Preservation Commission coordinated to bring the landmark stop along the BNSF line from dilapidated shell to the shining star of the community.
The Osceola Depot’s history began almost 150 years ago (just 40 short years after Iowa was established as a State). From Presidential “Whistle Stops” and soldiers going off to war, to countless family vacations and business trips, the Depot has served hundreds of thousands of people.
Known as the busiest train depot in Iowa, Osceola citizens can now stand proud, knowing the Depot renovations represent their city to travelers, tourists and business commuters from all over the Nation.
The renovations made to the Depot over the last few years include refurbished walls, roof, and exterior, bringing the building structure to date as well as renovations within the building that bring the history of this landmark to a new generation of Osceola citizens and travelers. Some modern updates include digital Wi-Fi access and plans for bus access, a food counter, and gift shop.
The Osceola Depot, for decades, has been The City of Osceola’s “First Impression” on those commuting through the state. Through the efforts made by The City, CCDC, Chamber Mainstreet, and The Historical Preservation Commission, the citizens of Osceola can once again take pride knowing such a spectacular facility stands to welcome the world to Osceola.
We look forward to seeing you at this grand event!
