Clarke County is scheduled to receive 1,170 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on Monday, March 15. Clarke County Hospital will administer these doses on Tuesday, March 16 through Friday, March 19, in the Hospital’s Vaccination Clinic.
All persons 65 years of age and older currently on the Clarke County Hospital waiting list are being contacted by phone to schedule their vaccination appointment for next week.
All eligible persons can schedule a vaccination appointment by calling the Clarke County Hospital’s COVID Vaccine Line at 641-342-5085. The number of appointments available is based on the number of vaccine doses we are being allocated next week.
We ask that people calling in to schedule a vaccination appointment have patience – we are expecting many calls from community members eager to set up their vaccination appointment for next week.
IDPH Guidelines for Persons Currently Eligible to Receive a COVID-19 Vaccination:
- Phase 1a – Health care workers, residents, and staff of long-term care facilities
- Phase 1b – Persons age 65 and over are eligible to receive the vaccine during any Tier
- Phase 1b – Tiers
- Tier 1 First responders, PK-12 school staff, childcare workers.
- Tier 2 Food, agriculture, distribution, and manufacturing workers, individuals with disabilities living in home settings and their direct care staff.
- Tier 3 Staff of and individuals living in congregate settings (excluding college dormitories). Government officials, government staff.
- Tier 4 Inspectors responsible for hospital, long term care, and child safety
- Tier 5 Correctional facility staff and individuals incarcerated.
Phase 1b Amended
Persons 16-64 years old with chronic health conditions are eligible to receive the vaccine. These conditions are:
- Cancer
- Chronic kidney disease
- COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
- Down Syndrome
- Heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, or cardiomyopathies
- Immunocompromised state (weakened immune system) from solid organ transplant
- Obesity (body mass index [BMI] of 30 kg/m2or higher but < 40 kg/m2)
- Severe Obesity (BMI ≥ 40 kg/m2)
- Pregnancy
- Sickle cell disease
- Smoking
- Type 2 diabetes mellitus
- Asthma (moderate-to-severe)
- Cerebrovascular disease (affects blood vessels and blood supply to the brain)
- Cystic fibrosis
- Hypertension or high blood pressure
- Immunocompromised state (weakened immune system) from blood or bone marrow transplant, immune deficiencies, HIV, use of corticosteroids, or use of other immune weakening medicines
- Neurologic conditions, such as dementia
- Liver disease
- Overweight (BMI > 25 kg/m2, but < 30 kg/m2)
- Pulmonary fibrosis (having damaged or scarred lung tissues)
- Thalassemia (a type of blood disorder)
- Type 1 diabetes mellitus
We expect that appointments to receive the vaccine will fill quickly for all allocated doses. We encourage all persons wanting a vaccination to take advantage of any opportunity to receive the vaccination, whether at the Hospital or elsewhere.
When additional allocations of the vaccine become available, we will notify local media and post on Facebook.
