Dr. Al Dykens, Clarke Community School district’s new Superintendent, has a vision. As he prepares for his first year with the district, he has been spending much of his time working with Clarke team members, students, and community members to create a culture of pride in Clarke Schools that he sees driving the success for the 2021-22 school year and beyond.
“This community is ready,” said Dykens. “I’ve gotten dozens of calls over the past weeks from families ready to get back to school and hungry for the return of Clarke activities.”
Including the start of classes across the district on Wednesday, fall sports are in full swing. With multiple home games and events taking place in just the first few days of the school year, Dykens is excited to see the community show up in force to support the kids.
“After the last year, these kids need the excitement and inspiration of organized events.” said Dykens. “It’s one of the best ways to lock in the love of community and camaraderie.”
More than sports and organized events, Dr. Dykens and the Administrative team have spent time focused on preparing for the students’ academic return. With COVID fears bubbling to the surface again, the school released their “Return to Learn” plan and intend on adhering to the best practices set out there.
“It’s important to assure the safety of all Clarke staff, students, and their families,” said Dr. Dykens. “Our {Return to Learn} plan allows each person the ability to make the best decisions possible to make that happen.”

2021 also sees several new positions filled within the Clarke district that will enhance the students’ day-to-day learning. The positions of Curriculum Director, Special Education Director, and Middle School Principal will all see new faces this year, bringing in fresh, motivated perspectives for academic success.
“Our team is focused on improving student literacy and proficiency across the board,” said Dykens. “We’re taking a more targeted approach to address any learning gaps that may have developed due to the pandemic.”
As the new year kicks off, Dr. Dykens assures the Clarke community that he is 100% committed to making his first year with the district a huge success. Building pride in the Clarke community, evaluating and creating plans for student academic success, as well as providing a safe and productive educational environment are his top priorities.
