In 2022, and in support of Clarke County Hospital’s (CCH)“Grow Our Own” initiative, a collaborative partnership between the Hospital, Clarke Community School District (CCSD), and Southwestern Community College (SWCC) was developed to offer Health Occupations and Certified Nursing Assistant classes to CCSD students. The Hospital was awarded a grant from Telligen Community Initiative to fund all out-of-pocket program expenses incurred by the Hospital, CCSD, SWCC and the students themselves for the 2022-23 school year.
Telligen Community Initiative is a Des Moines based foundation committed to supporting innovative and forward-looking health-related projects aimed at improving health, social well-being, and educational attainment.
“The educational partnership we formed with CCSD and SWCC has been very impactful on the students who participated in the classes and to the Hospital itself,” said CCH CEO Brian Evans. “The Health Occupations class exposed the students to a variety of healthcare career opportunities, and the CNA class and certification is a big stepping stone for students pursuing nursing degrees. We are so thankful for the Telligen Community Initiative funding that helped create a no-cost educational opportunity for our community’s students during the 2022-23 school year.”
