February 10, 2022 – Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, IA, today announced it has been recognized as a 2022 Top 100 Critical Access Hospital. Compiled by The Chartis Center for Rural Health, this 12th annual recognition program honors outstanding performance among the nation’s rural hospitals based on the results of the Hospital Strength Index. This Index assesses performance in eight areas: inpatient market share, outpatient market share, quality, outcomes, patient perspective, cost, charge and financial efficiency.
“We are honored that our staffs hard work, dedication, and quality of service in providing health care to our community has been recognized by being named as one of the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the United States “ said Brian Evans. “We aspire to our mission of delivering excellent, compassionate, and personalized health care to the people of south central Iowa.”
“Despite unprecedented adversity brought about by the rural hospital closure crisis, diminishing access to services such as obstetrics, nurse staffing shortages and COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy, rural providers continue to display resiliency and a steadfast commitment to their communities,” said Michael Topchik, National Leader, The Chartis Center for Rural Health.
Over the course of the last 12 years, the Hospital Strength INDEX has grown to become the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance. Leveraging publicly available data, the Index is trusted by rural hospitals, health systems with rural footprints, hospital associations and state offices of rural health across the country to measure and monitor performance across a variety of areas impacting hospital operations and finance. Clarke County Hospital has previously been named as a Top 100 Critical Access Hospital in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2021.
