It’s been a whirlwind of Clarke Community School activities this fall. All of the student body and community have really pulled together to support the Clarke activities and it’s showing great results!
Last Saturday, the Clarke marching band receiving a “1” rating at State. The Cross Country team chalked up a number of personal bests and the Girl’s Volleyball team, with new coach Christa Subbert, spiked in a win as well.
And if that wasn’t enough, last week was topped off with a long awaited “W” on the scorecard for Coach Dupree and the Clarke Indians Football team. After more than two seasons without a single win, Friday’s game proved to be a moment few in attendance will ever forget.
On social media, the comments started flying in as soon as the score was final. (Check out the photo slide show for more posts seen on Facebook.)
“Please allow us to reintroduce ourselves as The Clarke Indians with a 23-20 WIN! I’ve never has so many tears of joy as that was the best game I’ve ever been a part of at the varsity level.”
“Hat’s off to the entire Clarke Football team and staff!” Amy Hall Zimmerman posted to the Clarke Athletic Booster Club Facebook Page, “Yes, last night brought a win to the field, but to me, it was more than that. … what I saw last night embodies what it means to ‘give it your all!’”
Athletic Director, Ryan Sweeny was asked to give his insight on the successful fall Clarke Community Schools activities has had,
“Honestly, I wouldn’t say it it’s pinpointed to any one person, program or staff. I’d really give it all to to the kids working with the coaches; learning the lessons of hard work and perseverance. Ultimately that’s what won for us all.”
In a quick conversation with Coach DuPree, he attributed Friday’s win to a number of things,
“The kicking team, offense, and defense all stepped up when we need them. With Coach O’Tool recommending a new pass pattern, Coach Reese recommending some changes in the backfield, and of course, the interceptions by {lineman} Lewis and Sergeant’s on the 5 yard line; it certainly made {it} a complete, team effort.” Coach DuPree went on to point out, “Sergeant’s interception was the 6th of the game – all of them made by different players. That’s an incredible exclamation point to a new school record, and a helluva Senior Night.”
So, for all Clarke students, staff, families, and the surrounding community, hold your heads high with #ClarkePride. Hard work and perseverance has taken you to a place you deserve and you should be proud. Next time you see a Clarke student, give them a pat on the back and say “Great Work!”
At the end of the night, Clarke Indians stopped a 24-game losing streak.
Next week is where you get to continue the story. 😉
