CCH Daisy Award Winner, Dory Bakley
Clarke County Hospital is proud to announce Dory Bakley, Infusion Nurse, as the recipient of the 2025 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The DAISY Award recognizes nurses who demonstrate excellence in clinical care, compassion and a deep commitment to the well-being of their patients.
Dory was nominated by a grateful patient whose heartfelt story highlights the extraordinary care she provides:
“I had been suffering from the flu for a week and had become dehydrated. I was experiencing lots of symptoms including dizziness and pain in my stomach. It was nearing the end of a workday, but the doctor felt I needed to receive fluids. Dory came to the check-in office and wheeled me back in a wheelchair. She immediately started making me feel comfortable as she went straight into doing my blood work and starting fluids. She took my blood pressure repeatedly to be sure it was where it should be. Dory frequently checked on my progress. I know she stayed after her shift should have ended but she provided me treatment like she had nowhere else to be and my health was the most important thing she had to do in the moment. She called to check on me the next day. Dory has been showing this kind of dedication for at least 25 years. Thank you for showing you care.”
The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses is an international recognition program that honors the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. DAISY stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System and was established in 1999 by the Barnes family in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 from complications of an autoimmune disease. Deeply touched and inspired by the exceptional compassion and clinical care shown by Patrick’s nurses during his illness, his family created the DAISY Award to express their gratitude and to honor nurses everywhere for the profound impact they make. Now presented in over 5,000 healthcare facilities across more than 35 countries, the award recognizes nurses who go above and beyond, with honorees receiving a certificate, a DAISY Award pin, a hand-carved “Healer’s Touch” sculpture, and public recognition.
Clarke County Hospital is honored to recognize Dory Bakley as this year’s DAISY Award honoree. Her commitment to compassionate, high-quality care continues to make a lasting difference in the lives of her patients and colleagues.
