As a part of Clarke County Life and the efforts being made through our weekly publication, ClarkeCountyLife.com, the administrators decided to seek out special feature commentary from locals whom have unique perspectives on Osceola and Clarke County, Iowa. From young to old, the Clarke county community has some very amazing people and each one has a special story that makes living here unique. We want those stories to be heard through ClarkeCountyLife.com.

Today’s interview is with one of Osceola and Clarke County’s best-known resident / celebrities. Fern Underwood moved to Osceola before the city even had paved roads. Through good years and some of struggle, Fern, her husband and children experienced everything this community had to offer. From developing businesses and expanding educational opportunities to technological advances never imagined when she first set foot in Osceola, Fern has seen it all.

“People can accomplish a great deal with vision and determination when they combine their various talents and skills together.” — Fern Underwood

After decades in the community, Fern has spent the last few years doing everything she can to give back to a city and community that gave her so much to her and her family. From leadership and support roles to spearheading the Free Swim nights at the Osceola Public Pool on Monday nights, the value of Fern’s perspective on our community is immeasurable.

Take a few minutes to watch and listen in on a recent radio interview Fern did with Bill Trickey, Executive Director of Clarke County Development Corporation.
