Clarke County Hospital’s expansion project is progressing well. Over the last several weeks, the hospital has had as many as 70 workers a day working on-site. Concrete crews are capitalizing on the favorable temperatures and finishing up the last bit of outside concrete work for the winter. Outside EIFS and roofing details have been completed so that all areas of the expansion project are now sealed and waterproofed.

Inside, construction crews are working on overhead rough-in, duct work and electrical conduit. Interior framing is now complete and in some areas drywall has been installed, mudded and received its first layer of primer. The future Emergency Department entrance has been updated with a new canopy and over the summer a new ambulance garage was built.

The hospital’s expansion project encompasses 63,000 square feet of additions and renovations to the hospital. Major project additions include a new UnityPoint Clinic to accommodate more patients and practitioners, a new registration area with increased privacy for patients, a larger Outpatient Services area with more exam and treatment rooms, an expanded Specialty Clinic and Professional Services Department to meet the space demands for the increasing number of specialists at Clarke County Hospital, a larger Auxiliary Gift Shop located in the new lobby, and a new centralized main entrance which will provide easy access for patients to all services at Clarke County Hospital. Renovations also include a larger Emergency Department, an employee computer lab, a new business office with better accessibility, and expanded telehealth services.

With development and construction in full-swing this winter, patients and visitors will continue to have access to the main parking areas on the east and northwest side of the hospital. In May 2016, departments will move into their new areas and expanded parking will also become available. In Fall 2016, the hospital will enter into the next phase of construction, renovating the existing UnityPoint Clinic into a new and much larger Emergency Department.
